Core Team
Patrick Royer has broad-based expertise in geographic information systems (GIS), groundwater modeling, remote sensing, statistics, and geostatistics. Patrick is the lead for SOCRATES development, focusing on the implementation of rapid, web-based analytical tools using innovative cloud-based solutions. Patrick received his MS in Watershed Management from the University of Arizona.
Chris Johnson is a chemical engineer with wide-ranging experience in environmental restoration, remedy implementation, and groundwater modeling, with expertise in software development for environmental applications (e.g., RT3D, SVEET, RAAS). He is the technical lead and subject matter expert for several SOCRATES modules, including CRATES, GALEN, HYPATIA, and PLATO. Chris earned his MS in chemical engineering at Washington State University.
John Garza is a software engineer with expertise in the development of web and desktop applications. John is a technical lead on SOCRATES development, and is responsible for backend and frontend integration and application optimization for speed and efficiency. John earned his BS degrees in Mathematics and Computer Science at Tarleton State University in Texas.
Nicolas Huerta is a geologist and petroleum engineer with expertise in numerical modeling of subsurface reactive transport. He currently leads the development of the ARISTOTLE module in SOCRATES, guiding the integration of relevant waste site inventory data into data views that support risk assessments and numerical modeling evaluations. Nik received his PhD in Geological Sciences from the University of Texas at Austin.
Tycko Franklin is a software engineer specializing in the design and development of web-based and desktop applications. Tycko is the lead SOCRATES software developer, designing and implementing algorithms and cloud-based web frontend and backend architecture associated with data usage and work processes. Tycko earned his BAS in Information Technology from Columbia Basin College.
Kaitlyn Xinhao He is a user experience designer specializing in human-computer interaction for complex scientific applications. She leads the SOCRATES user experience design team, identifying design requirements, mapping out user workflows, creating intuitive application designs, and conducting usability testing based on user needs. Kaitlyn earned her BS in Human Centered Design & Engineering from the University of Washington.
