Objective
This research project developed a new algorithm that enhances the flexibility of (power electronics-based) PEB transmission systems. The new algorithm uses information about available transmission and generation to characterize system flexibility and enable optimal rescheduling of PEB transmission systems as a mitigation action after an event, such as outages, large forecasting errors, shortages in renewable energy generation, or other high-impact events. The WECC served as a use case for existing and proposed HVDC transmission and identified locations where controllable PEB transmission was beneficial to increase flexibility.
