Four researchers from Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL) have been honored as outstanding journal reviewers by the American Geophysical Union (AGU).

Larry Berg, Susannah Burrows, Yun Qian, and Nicholas Ward were recognized as among the best of last year’s 18,173 reviewers for AGU journals. Last year, AGU received more than 16,700 submissions and published more than 7,000 articles.

Berg and Qian were acknowledged for their reviews for the Journal of Geophysical Research: Atmospheres. The journal publishes research on climate variability and change. Berg is an Earth scientist and group leader of Earth system modeling within PNNL’s Atmospheric Sciences and Global Change Division. Qian is senior scientist and team lead of aerosols and aerosol–cloud interactions and interim team lead of land surface modeling within the same research division.

Burrows, a global atmospheric modeling scientist and recipient of an Early Career Research Program award from the U.S. Department of Energy, was named a top reviewer for Geophysical Research Letters, which publishes articles on major geoscience disciplines.

Ward, who is an Earth scientist in PNNL’s Coastal Science Division, was recognized by the editors of the Journal of Geophysical Research: Biogeosciences. The journal publishes research on the biogeosciences of the Earth system and related planetary studies. Ward conducts hydrological and biogeochemical research across the terrestrial–aquatic interface at PNNL’s Marine Sciences Laboratory.
