Benjamin Wilson is a nonproliferation policy analyst who works to develop analytic methodologies to detect the early stages of nuclear proliferation and serves on the U.S. Department of Energy team responsible for responding to international nuclear verification needs. Prior to joining the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory Ben spent twelve years at the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) working as both a safeguards technology expert and nuclear safeguards inspector. As a technology expert Ben led the IAEA Big Data Analytics project, developing analytical products that guided dozens of infield activities across the world in the pursuit of activities potentially indicating undeclared activities or contrary to United Nations Security Council Resolutions. He also prepared, prioritized, and evaluated infield activities relevant to IAEA interests in both the Democratic People's Republic of Korea and Iran as a member of the IAEA units assigned to those countries. As a safeguards inspector Ben conducted more short notice Complimentary Accesses to detect undeclared nuclear materials and activities than any other inspector previously employed by the IAEA. Prior to his work as a safeguards inspector Ben also has extensive experience as a nuclear engineer performing criticality safety evaluations and delivering pressurized water reactor core designs for both U.S. utilities and the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission.
