Global energy use is moving to renewable sources, however, this cannot provide enough power to achieve a carbon-free economy. Fossil fuel will continue to be a source of energy for the foreseeable future. Fossil fuels release gigatons of CO_² to the environment per year contributing to climate change. Human-induced climate change is evident from large wildfires, raising sea levels, and strong hurricanes. To mitigate these environmental effects, removal of CO_² from industrial emissions is required. Carbon capture is a process that removes CO_² released after burning fuel.
