Statistics and Math Assistance Resource Team (StatMart)

The broad cross-cutting capabilities of Statistics and Mathematics support many PNNL markets and product lines. Statistical and mathematical methods can illuminate projects by contributing to the interpretation of results and improving the effectiveness of experimental research. Statistics and Mathematics can be beneficially applied in many ways and to many stages of a project, from conceptual design to data collection to analysis and modeling to decision making. At PNNL, the Statistics and Mathematics Groups play two important roles:

• Resolving problems directly for clients who need statistical or mathematical solutions, and
• Collaborating with other PNNL organizations by providing statistical and math support to enable and enhance research projects and proposals.

At present, almost 70% of our statistics business aligns with the first role, and only 30% with the second. The Customer Service Model emphasizes integrated solutions that draw on many disciplines. To better fulfill our collaborative role and support implementation of the Customer Service Model, we announce the formation of the STATISTICS AND MATH ASSISTANCE RESOURCE TEAM (StatMart) and the following featured benefits:

1. Easy Access to Appropriate Expertise: A senior statistician will receive your inquiry, identify a staff member with the set of skills to match your needs, and arrange for a consultation.
2. Proposal Development Support: A well designed and embedded statistical plan can often distinguish a PNNL proposal from competitors' proposals, and enhance its potential for winning. StatMart can evaluate the applicability of a statistics component in the proposal and help you to develop it.
3. Two Hours of Free Consultation: The scope of your problem will be discussed in an initial consultation. For a fairly straightforward problem, a solution may be provided on the spot. Otherwise, potential approaches will be discussed and a path to a solution will be laid out.
