Biography

Dr. Junming Sun is a post-doctoral researcher with more than ten years of experience in catalyst synthesis and mechanistic catalytic chemistry. At Pacific Northwest National Laboratory’s Institute for Interfacial Catalysis, he is working on fundamental research, specifically methanol/ethanol steam reforming (MSR/ESR) catalysis to produce hydrogen on promoted palladium and cobalt catalysts.

Dr. Sun is working closely with Dr. Yong Wang, Associate Director of the Institute for Interfacial Catalysis. His work with Wang is focusing on how a zinc additive can influence the structures of catalysts and their catalytic performance. This structure characterization and performance of catalysts will help to unravel the intrinsic structure-reactivity relationships during the MSR/ESR catalysis.

Before joining PNNL in December 2008, Dr. Sun was at the University of California, Davis.

Research Interests

  • Controlled construction of nanostructured inorganic materials and their host-guest chemistry.
  • Preparation and characterization of novel metal nanoparticles, as well as their catalytic reactions.
  • Synthesis of tantalum clusters/mononuclear catalysts on the high surface area silica/alumina silicate support and their characterizations as well as light alkanes (e.g., methane) catalytic conversion.
