Biography

Cesar Izaurralde is a Laboratory Fellow with the Joint Global Change Research Institute (JGCRI), a collaboration between the University of Maryland and the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL). His current research focuses in the areas of modeling (a) the impacts of climate change and variability on terrestrial ecosystems and water resources and (b) carbon sequestration in and greenhouse gas emissions from agricultural soils.

Before joining PNNL in 1997, Dr. Izaurralde served as Chair of Resource Conservation in the Department of Renewable Resources at the University of Alberta, Canada. There he taught courses in soil conservation and conducted research in the areas of (a) soil conservation and nutrient cycling in agroecosystems and (b) environmental-economic modeling. In his native country of Argentina, he studied at and later joined the Facultad de Ciencias Agropecuarias at Universidad Nacional de Cordoba, Argentina.
