Capability Replacement Laboratory
Project Office
The Capability Replacement Laboratory Project Office (CRL) is responsible for ensuring the Lab safely and cost-effectively builds nearly 350,000 square feet of modern laboratories by 2011—the largest construction effort in the history of PNNL.
Nearly 50 percent of PNNL's experimental lab space and $200 million in research and development projects are located in the 300 Area of the nearby Hanford Site. The 300 Area is slated to be cleaned by 2012. To meet accelerated cleanup, the Lab must build replacement space to accommodate displaced staff, equipment and capabilities. Jim and his staff will manage a $224 million investment to build these new facilities.
The project includes constructing as many as five new laboratories that are proposed to be sponsored by the Department of Energy's Office of Science, the National Nuclear Security Administration, the Department of Homeland Security, and third-party investors.
The project office also is responsible for overseeing construction of PNNL's and Washington State University's $24-million Bioproducts, Sciences, and Engineering Laboratory, which is scheduled to be completed and occupied by 2007.
