Flad and Associates most qualified firm to build the Physical Sciences Facility
PNNL selected Flad and Associates, an architectural and engineering firm based in Madison, Wisconsin, to develop preliminary and final designs for the Physical Sciences Facility, pending final negotiations.
The PSF is a 335,000-square-foot building that will house a majority of our capabilities, equipment and staff that will be displaced by 2010 because of accelerated cleanup of the 300 Area.
The $224-million PSF, sponsored by the Department of Energy's Office of Science, the National Nuclear Security Administration and the Department of Homeland Security, is proposed to house PNNL's nuclear and radiological capabilities. It will be used to support the U.S. government's missions in detecting the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction, verifying compliance with international treaties and advancing environmental remediation. Scientists also will use the PSF to conduct dosimetry and other important homeland and national security research.
