New Committee Member
Vern Madson introduced Tom Bratvold, Energy Technology Division, who will replace Todd Hart on the Steering Committee.
Staff Association Halloween Party
The VPP Steering Committee was involved with this effort during the last two years. However, due to staff turnover on the Battelle Staff Association, we were not informed of the new plans to have the party at the Corn Maize on October 8, so we weren't able to participate. Vern has spoken with BSA and we are now in the loop. Thus, souviners that were purchased for this effort will be distributed at next May's Hanford Health and Safety Expo, and the Halloween glow sticks will be saved for next year's Halloween party. We will be involved with all future BSA parties for kids, including the Halloween party and the skating party.
DOE/VPP Pins
The VPP pins have arrived, and the American Flag pins are now on order. Mary Ann Showalter is drafting a letter to all staff to accompany the pins. The Steering Committee will hold an envelope stuffing party during the first full week of November. Pizza and pop will be served during this effort.
VPP Annual Self Assessment
The annual self assessment will be due February 15 of each year. Vern has contacted Chub Bowers and Pat Wright to set up an outline for this year's assessment, using last year's as a guide. Vern plans to meet with Chub and Pat to discuss this effort on October 29, then will meet with the full self assessment committee (Drue Collins, Nancy Isern, Elwood Lepel, Janice Haney, and Russ Meicenheimer). Vern indicated that the committee wants to be finished with this effort by the second week in December, before PNNL's contract negotiations.
Safety Expo 2002
John Reck has secured a large corner booth to be shared by VPP and the PNNL Electrical Safety Committee. In addition, the Steering Committee will need more posters, materials, and hands-on games to fill this large booth.
Region X Conference
The 2003 Region X Conference will be held in the Tri-Cities and hosted by Fluor Hanford. The Steeering Committee plans on contacting the Fluor point of contact to see if PNNL can help co-host, fulfilling our VPP mentoring goal.
Budget
Gary Lyons has set the VPP budget, which will be divided into work package numbers by project.
Tracking System
Drue Collins continues to work on resolving safety issues now in the tracking system. This data will be used in the self assessment.
