The blood pressure units are set up and operating in the ETB lobby and 337 cafeteria. They are being used and have been well received. If moved, they will need to be recalibrated (which will be taken care of by the PNNL electricians). However, the steering committee expects these two units to remain in those buildings, and the committee is evaluating the purchase of two new units to "roam" from building to building.
Defibrillators
Sharon Bailey reported that she talked to staff at Energy Northwest about heart defibrillators. Energy Northwest has had portable units in their buildings for eight years. Staff can be trained to use the defibrillators. OSHA is encouraging companies to get these life-saving units. Kennewick General Hospital offers 2-hour training with these devices, and suggest a CPR training course in addition. The units "talk" to staff and give instructions, and can actually sense when someone is not really having a heart attack. The Marine Sciences Laboratory is undergoing a pilot program for use of these units. Pat Wright talked with PNNL's Legal Department, who is in favor of obtaining these units. Vern Madson suggested assigning a committee to figure out the logistics. Pat will try to obtain a video for the steering committee to view.
VPP All-Staff Picnic
1250 staff members attended the August 8 picnic. ISO 14001 staff participated, and were very well received. Minor issues occurred, such as running out of pop. A lessons learned meeting was held on August 15, and lessons learned were documented by Alice Ver Steeg to consider during the planning of next year's picnic.
New VPP Posters
Jeanie Dixon presented a rough draft of the poster, and asked that any comments or ideas be forwarded to her and Mary Ann Showalter.
VPP Stop Work Cards
Drue Collins is working with John Reck to develop this card. One is currently used by Fluor Federal Services.
Steering Committee Charter
The charter subcommittee will be meeting in September to resurrect this action.
Staff Safety Recognition Awards
Gary Louie provided Vern with some ideas for these awards. Some items Vern showed to the committee were a road atlas, flashlight, maglight, sun shield, and briefcase bag. One thing to consider is whether to mail them to staff or do another huge building distribution. Committee members were asked to send their input to Mary Ann.
FY03 Budget
Russ Meicenheimer is coordinating a meeting to discuss budget.
VPPPA Conference Presentation
Pat, Nancy Isern, Elwood Lepel, Vern, and Russ will attend and present at the conference in Orlando. The presentation is set for September 10 at 8 a.m., and is entitled "Preparing for Your Onsite Review." They will start with a brief overview of the electronic application, how to get ready for the onsite review, and then broke it down into concepts on what is needed. Information will be passed out.
Expo
John Reck is getting four 20-foot x 20-foot booths for next year's Hanford Health and Safety Expo, to be held April 30 - May 3, 2003. VPP Region X is in the Tri-Cities at the same time.
VPP Support of BSA Halloween Party
Russ reported that the Corn Maize will be the setting for the October 13 party. He is communicating with BSA staff about VPP involvement.
