Minutes from August 8, 2000 VPP Steering Committee Meeting

VPP Steering Committee Meeting
Tuesday, August 8, 2000
ISB-1 White Bluffs Room

The meeting commenced at 2:35 p.m.

Survey Results

Vern Madson handed out the graphical results of the survey. All questions were answered well, except for the last question "Who is ultimately responsible for safety?" Over 600 staff members responded that you, your manager, and ES&H were responsible for your safety, as opposed to you.

It was also noted that staff really liked the mugs. All mugs at PNNL have been distributed, and the next task would be to send mugs to the offsite staff who responded. Russ Meicenheimer is mailing them mainly to Sequim, Seattle, Washington D.C., and Portland staff.

Safety Concerns Tracking Program

Nancy Isern discussed ALCOA's/Potlatch's electronic safety concerns database, which was the focus of a presentation by these two companies at the VPP Region X Conference in May. Nancy is setting up a meeting with the individuals who operate the Let's Talk database, and the general thought was that Let's Talk, combined with the Assessment Tracking System, would be a good way to track various safety elements.

VPP Onsite Evaluation Training Class and Application

The Steering Committee members who attended the onsite evaluation training class said the information provided was valuable. Roy Gibbs, DOE-HQ, was in town for the class and met with the Steering Committee members following the course. Roy indicated that other sites want to use PNNL as the benchmark for electronic applications. The tentative schedule for the application includes a rough draft by August 15, final review by September 15, and submittal to DOE by September 29.

Electrical Safety Committee

Cliff Wynn reported that the Electrical Safety Committee now has a charter in place. Cliff has been elected chair of the committee and stated that the committee meets every third Wednesday from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the 331 Building.

National VPP Conference

The National VPP Conference is to be held August 28 - 30 in Seattle. Vern reported that nine people are attending from the committee, and two others from outside the committee will also attend. A total of 59 individuals will be attending from the site.
