Minutes from April 25, 2001 VPP Steering Committee Meeting

VPP Steering Committee Meeting
Wednesday, April 25, 2001
ISB-1 White Bluffs Room

The meeting commenced at 2:35 p.m.

VPP Program Description

Vern Madson announced that Gary Lyons was working to get the VPP Program Description into the Standards-Based Management System. Todd Hart asked everyone to review it (he sent it out to the steering committee members in March for review). This document will show how VPP ties into the rest of the Laboratory.

VPP Self Assessment

Our VPP self assessment is now on the VPP web site and also in our application. Actions have been assigned and are in the Assessment Tracking System.

Health and Safety Expo

The Health and Safety Expo is scheduled for May 1 - 3, 2001, at TRAC. John Reck passed out the schedule of times and who will work the VPP booth. To assure a look of uniformity, we are to wear khaki pants and navy shirts when working the booth. Russ Meicenheimer asked the committee for any items to display on the nimlock (the backboard behind the booth). Rich Garretson and Lavon Clement, among others, constructed the spinning prize wheel (and did a great job!). We will be using the prizes we gave out last year, as we have a lot left over.

Porcelain Press

Vern announced that Mary Ann Showalter and Drue Collins will still put together the Porcelain Press, and that he will handle distribution to the individuals who are posting the newsletter in the buildings. Russ will pick up the newsletter from Duplicating; however, Vern also mentioned that Duplicating can send the newsletter out to the "posters" for us if they have the list of who gets it. Vern passed out the listing that shows who is responsible for posting each building and the number of copies they need.

Onsite Review

Vern asked for volunteers to serve as escorts during the onsite review. A sign-up sheet was passed around. The onsite review will take place May 21 - 25, 2001, starting about 7:30 each day, with the reviewers out in the field around 10 a.m.

Vern also reported that, during initial review, the team had some trouble accessing the Assessment Tracking System and Training and Qualification web sites. Approximately 50 interviews will be scheduled for the review. Roy Gibbs, DOE-HQ, will serve as the team lead.

Committee Issues

John Reck made a motion that we discuss working together so that we can achieve STAR status. However, time did not allow for a lengthy conversation, and Vern tabled the issue until a future meeting.

National VPP Conference

Vern reported that our abstract for presenting on the electronic application process was accepted for the national conference, to be held at the end of August in New Orleans. In addition to himself, Todd, and Pat Wright, Vern hopes to send Mary Ann and Russ to assist with the presentation.
