Minutes from January 16, 2001 VPP Steering Committee Meeting

VPP Steering Committee Meeting
Tuesday, January 16, 2001
ISB-1 White Bluffs Room

The meeting commenced at 2:35 p.m.

ISM Conference

Vern Madson reported that about 800 people from across the DOE Complex attended the ISM Conference in Pasco on December 5 and 6. The general feeling was that the conference was technical in nature but the common theme was employee involvement.

VPP Awareness Campaign Update

Vern reported that VPP updates at the F&O Safety Meetings were completed in December, and that Steering Committee members were needed to continue this activity. Also, it was noted that Dr. Powell prominently discussed VPP during the last Senior Leadership Team meeting. Vern also reported that the VPP information cards and ice scrapers were sent to all staff, and he thanked all who helped send out these items. The Porcelain Press, a VPP newsletter, was piloted in the bathrooms of EMSL, RTL, PSL, and all 300 Area PNNL facilities.

VPP Application

Vern reported that the VPP application was forwarded by DOE-RL to DOE-HQ on December 21. Vern, Todd Hart, and Pat Wright will be traveling to Washington D.C. on February 1 to provide DOE-HQ staff with an overview of PNNL's VPP and a tutorial on how to use the online application.

Safety Expo

John Reck reported that the 7th Annual Hanford Health and Safety Expo would take place in May. John is planning on assembling last year's committee to help plan for this year's booth.

VPP Region X Conference

Region X will be held May 9 and 10, 2001, in Bend, Oregon. Vern reported that we have some budget concerns and that F&O staff will probably not attend.

VPP National Conference

Vern also reported that the national conference will be held August 27 - 30, 2001, and that we would try to send some people to attend.

Onsite Reviews

Vern reported that we will be performing an internal onsite review using qualified evaluators to ensure that final adjustments are made. In addition, an onsite review at CHG will be performed at the end of January. Vern announced that Russ Meicenheimer will represent PNNL as an evaluator.
