Hazard Prevention
And Control
What does VPP Hazard Prevention and Control look like?
Specifics for your operation can be supplied by your company VPP Champion
but in general, both management and workers must commit to:
- Reasonable site access to Certified Industrial
Hygienists and Certified Safety Professionals or Certified Safety Engineers,
as needed, based on the potentially significant risk of the worksite.
- The means to eliminate or control hazards which
include:
- Engineering controls, including substitutions
- Administrative controls
- Personal protective equipment
- Safety and health rules including procedures
for specific operations appropriate to the potential hazards of the worksite;
procedures are to be written, implemented and updated by management.
- Written procedures for disciplinary action or
reorientation of workers and supervisors who break or disregard safety rules,
safe work, material handling or emergency procedures.
- Written procedures for response to emergencies
listing requirements for personal protective equipment, first aid, medical
care, or emergency egress; procedures should include provisions for emergency
telephone numbers, exit routes, and training drills.
- Ongoing monitoring and maintenance of workplace
equipment to prevent it from becoming hazardous.
- A medical program which includes the availability
of physician services and personnel trained in first-aid.
