Biography

Yi holds a joint appointment with Pacific Northwest National Laboratory and the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. His research interests are biosynthetic inorganic chemistry, DNAzyme and aptamer-based sensing and imaging agents, as well as functional DNA nanotechnology. His work into fundamental questions about catalysts' mesoscale behavior could one day lead to harnessing natural sources of energy to produce electricity, fuels, and chemicals.
