Biography

Stephanie Lyons is a physicist in the Signature Sciences and Technology Division. Lyons’ research focuses on radiation detection, and she applies her expertise across a variety of mission spaces, from nuclear astrophysics to nuclear nonproliferation.

Lyons received her PhD in physics from the University of Notre Dame in 2016. She joined Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL) in 2019, after her a postdoctoral fellowship at the National Superconducting Cyclotron Laboratory at Michigan State University. As a postdoc, Lyons led several experiments for the β-Oslo Collaboration and was the principal investigator for an expansion of the indirect cross section measurement technique for reactions on proton-rich nuclei.

Lyons is a member of the Facility for Rare Isotope Beams (FRIB) User Organization and serves on the FRIB Decay Station Total Absorption Spectroscopy Working Group. She previously served as co-chair for Prism, PNNL’s Employee Resource Group for LGBTQ+ staff and allies, and currently serves as U.S. delegate for the International Conference for Women in Physics.
