Biography

Po-Lun Ma is an atmospheric scientist working on the development, evaluation, and analysis of Earth system models. His research interest is oriented towards understanding the role of aerosols and clouds in the evolving climate using numerical models and observations. He leads a multi-institutional effort that combines expertise in atmospheric science, computational science, data science, and software engineering to develop improved representations of aerosols and aerosol-cloud interactions in DOE's Earth system model. The team produces a large dataset consists of aerosols, clouds, and meteorology from high resolution models and observations to provide the foundation for improving understanding and predictability using novel artificial intelligence and machine learning techniques.
