Biography

Luke Richards joined Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL) in 2022 in the National Security Directorate. He is a principal investigator on projects focusing on assured artificial Intelligence efforts in machine learning (ML) safety, security, and usability. He is passionate about assuring safe, secure, and equitable systems are being deployed to serve users and missions. 

While working full-time, he is a PhD candidate at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC) in computer science studying machine learning with an expected graduation date of 2024. Prior to PNNL, he worked in government supporting research and application efforts in ML in domains like radio frequency analysis and malware analysis. He holds a BS and MS in computer science from UMBC.
