Biography

Justin Teeguarden is a PNNL Lab Fellow and the chief science officer for the Environmental Molecular Sciences Laboratory (EMSL) User Program. With over 20 years of scientific leadership as a computational and experimental scientist, Teeguarden leads EMSL's strategic science planning and internal R&D initiatives. He currently serves as vice-chair of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) Board of Scientific Counselors Homeland Security Subcommittee, as PNNL’s representative to the Indo Pacific Research Alliance for Military Medicine, and he holds a joint appointment with the Department of Environmental and Molecular Toxicology at Oregon State University (OSU) where he is the principal investigator on the PNNL-OSU National Institutes of Health Superfund research program. Teeguarden has served on multiple National Academy of Sciences (NAS) Committees, and his various roles are a result of extensive experience in computational modeling, toxicology, and exposure science.

Teeguarden’s technical accomplishments fall into three major thematic areas:

  • Development and regulatory application of computational models and frameworks for simulating the fate and transport of chemicals (drugs, toxicants, metals) and their interaction with biological receptor systems in humans;
  • Development of the operative theories, models, and paradigms (experimental and computational) used by the field of toxicology to measure, model, and predict the fate of nanoparticles in in vitro cell culture systems used for toxicity screening; and
  • Quantitative and experimental approaches to measuring the contribution of environmental and endogenous estrogens in humans by integrating clinical, environmental, and computational exposure assessment methods.
