Biography

Christian Meinig has been the Division Director for the Coastal Sciences Division since 2022, based at the Marine and Coastal Research Laboratory in Sequim, Washington. His responsibilities include developing and deploying coastal science and engineering capabilities to empower a scientific approach to energy, environment, and security. His research interests include the research, development, testing, and transition of ocean instruments and observing platforms, including uncrewed surface vehicles.

Before joining PNNL, he was the Director or Engineering at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's (NOAA's) Pacific Marine Environmental Laboratory for  23 years, where he focused on the development, testing, and implementation of global-scale ocean observing systems, several through successful public-private partnerships. Prior to NOAA, he was a project engineer and ship’s officer on 30 major research cruises in polar, equatorial, and coastal waters.
