Northwest Nanoscience and Nanotechnology Network

About Us

The purpose of this information network is to provide a convenient method by which those within the region can identify and communicate with individuals and groups doing nanoscience or technology and provide a convenient method for those outside the nano community to identify the extent of activities that are taking place in the region.

The Northwest plays a major role in several high technology industries that are being or can be significantly altered by developments associated with nanoscience and nanotechnology. There is also a significant amount of educational and research effort associated with these rapidly developing areas in the Northwest and more recently with efforts to create new business opportunities. Regional universities, laboratories and industries have leading positions in some areas of nanoscience or technology or have identified important aspects of these fields that are especially relevant to the Northwest.

In some parts of the country, state or local governments have provided resources to encourage and coordinate the development of nano activities. In some regions, these state supported initiatives provide financial resources, a means of communication and coordinated development of new activities, and high visibility that further encourages new research and investment. The formation of an informal network can serve to enhance communication, team formation, event scheduling and regional visibility.
