Biotechnology—a foundation for multidisciplinary science

Biological activity can occur across a range of scales, from the nanoscale—involving
atomic ions—to the macromolecular level of an entire organism. PNNL
researchers are creating computational and theoretical methods that incorporate
information across scales. Their goal is to develop an underlying infrastructure
for scientists that will support ongoing research and transform the work environment
with new tools to accomplish the multidisciplinary science essential for a
systems or integrated approach to biology. Current efforts include obtaining
real-time data from living cells and predicting how cells behave, looking
at DNA repair and protein structures.
