Karthikeyan Ramasamy, senior research engineer at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory, was recently elected to a three-year term as a director of the Fuels & Petrochemicals Division of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers.

In this role, Ramasamy will join board members from industry and academia to provide guidance and oversight of the division, which is established to further the application of chemical engineering principles in the field of fuels and petrochemicals. The division also provides a forum for communication and sharing of information and ideas among researchers engaged in fuels and petrochemicals activities. His term began in June 2020.

“I am pleased to serve in a role where I can provide collaboration, expertise, and advice on advancing research and technologies in the fuels and petrochemicals field with my peers from around the globe,” said Ramasamy.

Prior to joining PNNL in 2009, Ramasamy was a research engineer at Florida Solar Energy Center, where he focused on alternative hydrogen production and hydrogen storage processes. His current research focuses on developing heterogeneous catalysts for producing fuels and chemicals from low-cost alternative feedstocks.

Ramasamy has obtained six fuel and chemical-related U.S. patents during his time at PNNL. In addition to this new role, he serves as treasurer of the American Chemical Society’s Catalysis Science & Technology Division and is on the editorial advisory board of Catalysis Today.
