PNNL Cybersecurity Expert Elected to (ISC)2 Board of Directors

Ross O'Neil will serve three-year term to provide strategy and oversight of 138,000-member organization

Lori Ross O'Neil, a PNNL Energy Cybersecurity Project Manager, has been elected to the (ISC)2 Board of Directors. (ISC)2 is an international nonprofit association focused on inspiring a safe and secure cyber world.

As a member of the board, Ross O'Neil—who is a Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP®)—joins the ranks of other top cyber, information, software and infrastructure security professionals from around the world representing academia, private organizations and government agencies. The 13-member board provides strategy, governance and oversight for the organization, grants certifications to qualifying candidates, and enforces adherence to the (ISC)2 Code of Ethics. She will begin her board duties effective Jan. 1, 2019 and serve a three-year term.

Best known for its CISSP® certification, (ISC)2—which has more than 138,000 members worldwide—offers a portfolio of credentials that are part of a holistic and pragmatic approach to security.

In her current role with PNNL, Ross O'Neil manages multi-million-dollar energy cybersecurity research projects. Her team works in partnership with government agencies and industry to perform research and development to deliver "first-of-a-kind" solutions that protect U.S. national critical infrastructure, including the electric grid, smart grid, oil and natural gas. Ross O'Neil has more than two decades of experience in cybersecurity and information technology, the last 10 years of which has focused on cybersecurity of industrial control systems with a focus on the U.S. energy sector.
