Angela Becker-Dippmann, Program Development Office director at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL), has joined a new advisory group assembled by Puget Sound Energy (PSE) that focuses on making that utility a Beyond Net Zero Carbon company.

The advisory group was assembled to help drive PSE quickly toward a cleaner energy future, while also making sure their energy resources are helping Washington State, its customers, and its communities reduce their carbon impacts.

Former Washington State Governor Christine Gregoire is chairing the group. Becker-Dippmann joins around 20 of her peers from state labor and industry leadership, elected officials, environmental representatives, and frontline representatives. Organizations represented include the Port of Seattle, the cities of Kirkland and Bellingham, the Northwest Energy Coalition, Seattle City Light, the Boeing Company, and more.

PSE’s goals include reducing emissions from electric and gas operations and electric supply to net zero by 2030 and having a 100 percent carbon-free electric supply by 2045. An additional target is net zero carbon emissions for natural gas sales, also by 2045.

PSE, headquartered in Bellevue, Washington, has been providing energy services for more than 145 years. It covers a service area of 6,000 square miles, primarily in the Puget Sound region of western Washington, and serves around 1.2 million electric and more than 900,000 natural gas customers.

Becker-Dippmann was a senior policy analyst at PNNL from 2011 to 2015 before leaving to serve as staff director with the Senate Committee on Energy and Natural Resources. She returned to PNNL in 2019 and currently serves as the Program Development Office director for the Energy and Environment Directorate. In this role, she evaluates emerging national, regional, and state energy and environmental policies, priorities, and programs to make sure that science and technology are focused on the most important outcomes.

In November 2021, Becker-Dippmann was recognized with an Energy Leadership Award from the CleanTech Alliance. The award spotlights individuals and organizations that are making significant contributions to the fields of energy policy, innovation, and business.
