Microproducts
Microproducts are products with microscale components or systems. With microtechnology, devices can be made smaller, lighter, and more portable. When devices are smaller, the processes within them are more powerful and efficient. For example, when manufacturers learned how to miniaturize electronic components and circuits, we were able to have cellular phones and palm-held computers. A similar potential exists for devices that transfer heat or control a chemical reaction. Just as rapid advances in microelectronics have revolutionized computers, appliances, communication systems, and many other devices, we can expect advances to revolutionize all sorts of products that use heat exchangers, heat pumps, combustors, gas absorbers, solvent extractors, fuel processors, and many other devices. Application areas where breakthrough microproducts can make significant contributions include energy, health, space, transportation, chemicals, the environment, electronics, and military.
