2005 Micro Nano Breakthrough Conference
Call for Participation
The 2004 Micro Nano Breakthrough Conference exceeded all expectations for content, quality, attendance, contacts, and results. We expect the 2005 Conference to be even better. We will bring together leaders in research, education, technology development, industry, government, business, and venture capital investments to focus on development of micro and nano technology for new products. About 400 attendees will share ideas and findings, build collaborative networks, participate in working groups, exhibit commercial technologies and services, and help set agendas for developing new microproducts.
The technical committee organizers for this conference include representatives from the Microproducts Breakthrough Institute, Oregon Nanoscience and Microtechnology Initiative (ONAMI), Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL), Oregon State University (OSU), Portland State University (PSU), University of Washington (UW), University of Oregon (UO), and Oregon Health and Science University (OHSU).
You may participate in this conference in several ways:
- present a paper in a technical session,
- participate in one of the roundtable forums,
- exhibit business and industry technologies and capabilities,
- present a poster paper,
- conduct or attend a short course,
- join a working group
- be a conference sponsor or sponsor a particular session,
- host a hospitality suite.
All participants must register for the conference. If you wish to submit a proposal for participation in one or more of the above ways, please do so on this site.
Submit your proposals now. Deadline is April 15.
1. Technical Sessions
The purpose of the technical sessions is to present breaking research and development and to highlight new products. Each technical session will have three or four speakers, and each speaker will have 20 minutes to present their work. This will be followed by a 10-minute question and answer period with the audience. If you want to present a technical paper, submit a 300-word maximum abstract (on-line) for the paper in one of the following topical sessions. If your paper is accepted, the abstract will be printed in the conference program.
- Health Care—Nanotechnology and its use in medicine
- Health Care—Use of micro/nano technology in medical devices
- Green Micro/Nano Technology—Solutions that protect the environment
- Nanometrology—Technology to measure what you make
- Microdevices—Developing micro chemical and thermal systems.
2. Roundtable Forum Sessions
The purpose of the rountable sessions is to provide a forum for expert opinion and open discussion on key topics. Each roundtable forum will consist of three or four members who are experts on the topic. Each will be given about 10 minutes to make their remarks. The session leader will direct the discussion, and the audience will have the opportunity to ask questions to stimulate further discussion. If you want to participate in a roundtable forum, submit a 300-word maximum abstract (on-line) outlining your comments for one of the roundtable sessions listed below. If your proposal is accepted, your abstract will be printed in the conference program.
- Roundtable Forum—Mini Investor Forum (full)
- Roundtable Forum—How to Integrate Micro/Nano Technology into Products
- Roundtable Forum—Roles and Requirements for Micro/Nano Technology
- Roundtable Forum—Strategic Development of Micro/Nano Industry in the Northwest
3. Business & Industry Exhibition
The purpose of the Business and Industry Exhibition is to hi-lite available technologies and services. We offer exhibit space for you to reach your target audience. Commercial displays may be proposed for any micro/nano technology or related services. Presenters set up their exhibits on the morning of Tuesday, July 26. On the evening of the 26th there will be a Business & Industry Exhibition and Reception from 5 to 7 pm, where representatives speak one-on-one with attendees. The display should remain set up until the afternoon of Thursday, July 28. The exhibit area will be locked and secured when the conference is not in session.
Each business and industry exhibitor will pay $500, which covers registration for one exhibitor and the use of the approximately 9-ft wide and 5-ft deep display area. A 6-ft long by 30-inch wide table and two chairs will be provided, and an electrical hookup is included. Hardwired and wireless internet hookups will be in place. Any additional representatives must register for the conference at a cost of $150. If you want to have a business and industry display, submit a 300-word maximum abstract (on-line) describing your proposed exhibit. If your proposal is accepted, your abstract will be printed in the conference program. You will be contacted if your exhibit is accepted for the conference.
4. Poster Paper Session
The purpose of the poster paper session is to present research, development and new innovations in a graphic format. Poster papers may be proposed for any micro/nano-related topic. This could be on any subject or area related to discovery, development, and deployment of microproducts. Poster presenters prepare a poster and set it up on Tuesday, July 26. Each presenter is provided a 4 by 4-ft poster board space and a small table in front of it. On the evening of the 27th there will be a Poster Paper Session and Reception where presenters talk one-on-one with session attendees. Conference attendees will be able to visit the posters throughout the conference. If you want to present a poster paper, submit a 300-word abstract (on-line). If your poster paper is accepted, your abstract will be printed in the conference program.
5. Short Courses
The purpose of the short courses is to provide attendees with important information and strategies. On Monday, July 25, there will be a series of pre-conference short courses. These are offered to promote the development and application of micro/nano technology in new products. There will be separate registration fees for each of these short courses.
