Supercomputer ranks near top

On a list of the world’s 500 fastest computing systems, an HP supercomputer housed in the William R. Wiley Environmental Molecular Sciences Laboratory (EMSL) at PNNL comes in at no. 5. This is the first time the 11.8 teraflop supercomputer was ranked based on its full power.
The supercomputer, ordered in April 2002, is installed in the Molecular
Science Computing Facility (MSCF) of EMSL. Opportunities to use the computer
are granted to multi-institutional research teams on a competitive proposal
basis.
