- 1997
- Global Energy Technology Strategy Project (GTSP) begins as a collaboration between Battelle and EPRI with pilot project;
- BP-Amoco, ExxonMobil, join GTSP as major sponsors;
- GCAM selected by OSTP to conduct policy analysis prior to Kyoto Protocol negotiations;
- SGM chosen by the President's Council of Economic Advisors for analysis of the cost of emissions mitigation prior to the Kyoto Protocol negotiations
- 1998
- St. Michaels soil carbon workshop;
- CSiTE begins IA work at PNNL;
- EPIC model improved for better simulation of soil C and N dynamics;
- Series of technology papers explore the potential value of various technologies including-nuclear, solar, fuel cells, H2, modern biomass, carbon capture, geological sequestration, and terrestrial sequestration;
- PNNL & SC-1 initiate first comprehensive analysis of global public and private sector energy R&D
- 1999-2000
- US DOE (SC & FE) joins GTSP as major sponsor;
- Regional Workshops and visiting scholars explore regional technology responses to climate change mitigation in China, India, Japan, and Korea;
- PNNL IA team member selected to head USGCRP;
