FEMIS v1.5.3 was tested with Oracle version 8.1.7.4, and FEMIS v1.5 was tested with Oracle version 8.1.6.2. Oracle version 8.1.7.4 is recommended for site servers that have interconnect connections use because it can be patched to prevent known security vulnerabilities.
Oracle Support provides patches to resolve bugs and to improve security. With the increased emphasis on unauthorized access, these patches are being released more frequently.
At the time FEMIS v1.5.3 was released in May 2003, five security patches were required to meet known vulnerabilities. These patches were obtained from Oracle's Support Web site and are available from PNNL for sites that have Oracle Software Support licenses for Oracle 8i.
For sites that have Oracle 8.1.7.4 and FEMIS v1.5.3 installed, these five patches have already been installed. If you need to re-install the patches, instructions for installing these patches are included in errata pages for the FEMIS v1.5.3 Installation Guide.
As of June 23, 2003, no additional Oracle 8.1.7.4 patches are required beyond the five included with the FEMIS v1.5.3 release and installation.
Other patches may be required in the future. PNNL will test new patches and post information about these patches. Sites that have active Oracle Software Support licenses can obtain patches directly from Oracle MetaLink.
