Experience:
Prior to joining PNNL in 1998, David Smith had been a mechanical and electrical contractor, community college instructor, and, as project manager for North Carolina's Energy Office, chaired a group of 18 states seeking a simplified and enforceable commercial building energy code.
At PNNL his efforts with states and commercial codes continued. He helped initiate and managed a quarterly DOE newsletter on fuel cell codes and standards. He contributed a real-world perspective to projects such as EPAct HVAC equipment efficiencies, the unitary air conditioner procurement, and the design and site management of Radiation Portal Monitor deployments. As a member of PNNL's FORSCOM team, he successfully competed for a grant and managed a combined heat and power microturbine demonstration at Fort Drum, New York.
His interests and capabilities include working with people – consensus building, organizing, and facilitating – and with words - accuracy in written communication.
