Sriram Somasundaram, Ph.D.

Experience

Dr. Sriram Somasundaram has served as the PNNL Technical Lead for the Northwest Hydrogen Initiative, an effort to develop the regional hydrogen infrastructure for transportation and power generation applications. He coordinated the activities of numerous public and private regional stakeholders in the Initiative, including potential partners from Alaska and British Columbia. He has been primarily responsible for Initiative proposal development efforts for the U.S. Departments of Energy and Defense to demonstrate a hydrogen fueling system and assessing potential benefits and barriers of various hydrogen pathways. Dr. Somasundaram has led several project teams over the past 15 years, involving complex, multi-year, multi-task projects characterized by numerous public and private stakeholders, frequently pursuing conflicting agendas. He has excellent interpersonal, analytical, and written and oral communication skills.

Dr. Somasundaram has authored and co-authored over 100 peer-reviewed technical papers and edited conference proceedings, including two book chapters. He served as the chair of the ASME's Cogeneration Technical Committee from 1991 to 1998, and as the chair of the ASHRAE's Technical Committee (TC) 9.5 on Cogeneration Systems from 1995 to 1998. He has also served as the Associate Technical Editor of the Energy Engineering Journal of Association of Energy Engineers (AEE) from 1988 to 1997 and as the Associate Technical Editor of ASME's Journal of Energy Resources Technology (JERT) since 2000. Dr. Somasundaram was elected a Fellow of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) in 1997 and was the 2003-2004 Chair of the Advanced Energy Systems Division of ASME.
