Experience:

Steven Weiner is a senior scientist in the Energy Science and Technology Directorate at the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL), which is operated by Battelle Memorial Institute for the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE). He joined the Washington, D.C., office in 1993 following an industrial career at Exxon Chemical Company, Exxon Research and Engineering Company, and Air Products and Chemicals, Inc. in a variety of R&D, business development and management assignments.

Dr. Weiner has assisted the DOE with chemicals-related Industries of the Future initiatives through its Industrial Technologies Program Office, and as a member of the Technology and Manufacturing Competitiveness Task Group, he was a contributor to Technology Vision 2020: The U.S. Chemical Industry. He represented PNNL and served as chair (1999-2003) of the Laboratory Coordinating Council, an organization of 16 DOE national laboratories and facilities bringing their capabilities to bear on the technological future of the energy-intensive industries. Dr. Weiner also served on the Chief Technology Officers Committee for Agenda 2020, the forest products industry of the future initiative. He is currently hydrogen safety program manager responsible for the work of the Hydrogen Safety Panel that supports the DOE Hydrogen, Fuel Cells and Infrastructure Technologies Program Office.

Dr. Weiner is a member of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE) and was named an AIChE Fellow in 1995. He is a former director (1993-1995) of the AIChE Board of Directors and served as chair of the AIChE Government Relations Committee. He previously served as director and chair of the Fuels and Petrochemicals Division, which honored him with its 1999 Distinguished Service Award.

Dr. Weiner represented PNNL on the Council for Chemical Research, its Governing Board (1998-2000) and Executive Committee (2000).
