About ESTD
Energy Science and Technology Directorate Mission:
The Energy Science and Technology Directorate (ESTD) mission is twofold with a primary objective for growth in our Public Energy and Information Sciences and Engineering business.
- To grow the Laboratory business base with U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Energy Efficiency/Energy Resources (EE/ER) and Fossil Energy (FE) to establish a $50 million per year business by 2003. The Directorate will target DOE mission critical outcomes of high commercial significance, establish science and technology-based thrusts in which PNNL can be a recognized leader, and focus on targeting, developing, capturing, and commercializing high value intellectual property via BMI commercial market sectors.
- To maintain Information Science and Engineering support of critical Laboratory missions, and to expand the external business base to achieve sustainable enterprise (greater than $50 million per year by 2003). The Directorate will develop signature thrusts resulting in sustainable business and strong Intellectual Property (IP) positions, create opportunities for spin off of commercial IP ventures and grow the Information Technology resources at PNNL.
ESTD sector responsibility supports the Laboratory agenda of a premier national laboratory in the scientific and technical contribution area by building a sustained, technology innovation driven program with DOE EE/ER and FE.
The Directorate also provides an essential core service for the information network and leadership of the Information Resources Management System. The key goal for the core service is to provide a cost-effective approach to providing state-of-the-art computational, telephone, and video services to the Lab infrastructure.
