Turning agricultural waste into energy

The Port of Benton has made a deal with an Oregon pellet maker and a Western Washington company to turn local agricultural waste into an energy source. West Oregon Wood Products of Columbia City, Ore., will use the Port's patented recipe to make the pellets from agricultural waste. Evergreen Fuel Technologies of Woodinville, Wash. will use gasification to convert the pellets to create energy that will be returned to the Mid-Columbia's power grids. Port officials are negotiating to purchase 40 acres in Prosser, Wash. to site the project and create local jobs.
