SPEAKER SERIES - More Exciting Wines from Washington State

Sunny days, cool nights, and a diversity of unique growing sites have transformed Washington into the second largest premium wine producer in the United States with more than 700 wineries producing 12 million cases each year. Dr. Thomas Henick-Kling, Professor of Enology and Director of Viticulture and Enology for Washington State University, will discuss plans for WSU's new, state-of-the-art Wine Science Center including the University's wine science program and its benefits to the wine industry, as well as the research and education that will take place at this world-class facility.


Dr. Henick-Kling is based on WSU's Tri-Cities campus, specializing in wine research and extension. Prior to his assignment at WSU in 2009, Dr. Henick-Kling was Director of the National Wine & Grape Industry Centre at Charles Sturt University in Australia. He is a wine microbiologist with over 30 years of research experience in the US, Europa, and Australia and has extensive knowledge of wines from around the world.

About the Series

Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL) and Mission Support Alliance, LLC are teaming to host the speaker series dedicated to educating stakeholders, the community, and other interested individuals and organizations on what it takes to successfully develop a research park. Speakers will share their experiences in locating federal funding and investors, recruiting tenants, exploring ways to use sustainable and green technologies when developing research parks, and how to successfully collaborate with universities, national laboratories, and industrial interests.
