EDGE Software

This innovative software enables facility designers and engineers to examine approximately 250 opportunities for incorporating sustainability measures into different stages of the design process.

Sustainable Design Training Courses

This Sustainable Design project developed SD training and has deployed both site-level and project-level training since 1995. Two courses are available to train facility designers, engineers, and project managers on methods to implement P2/WMin into the design of new or modified facilities. Individuals who have expertise in a particular area of sustainable design and P2/WMin provide this training.

The Pollution Prevention Good Practice Guide

This guide takes the reader through the five steps of the Pollution Prevention Design Assessment process. Look inside for instructions for downloading the guide to your computer.

Pollution Prevention Project Cost Estimating Guide

This short guide is intended to help DOE facility designers estimate the potential benefits of pollution prevention alternatives.

Template Language for Letters of Intent and Construction Contracts

These templates give facility designers and engineers language for letters of intent to contractors and for construction contracts. The U.S. Department of Energy recommends incorporating the requirements to purchase environmentally preferable products for all construction projects and, in particular, those construction products designated by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency for purchase with recycled content and by the U.S. Department of Agriculture with biobased content along with energy/water efficient and low-toxicity products in the following documents:

  • Architectural and engineering standards and materials specifications
  • Conceptual and definitive design reports
  • Architectural, engineering, and construction bid request packages and subcontracts

DOE sites should revise the templates to fit their site situation and particular documents in question. The available templates are:
