National and regional energy costs are rising significantly. In the Pacific Northwest region, power shortages due to low water conditions might be possible. That is why Pacific Northwest National Laboratory has made water conservation and energy efficiency the key elements of its Facility Energy Management Plan. Using these resources judiciously is a prime objective of the laboratory as it seeks to minimize the impact of laboratory operations. Toward this end, the staff in the Energy Science and Technology Division work closely with staff in Facilities and Operations Directorate to create a laboratory that uses energy research and development in their everyday operations.
