Collaboratories

Collaboratories enable interaction between scientists or teams by making Problem Solving Environments available across distances and time zones. These environments facilitate the sharing of computational resources, scientific equipment, and data with researchers who are working together from remote locations. Researchers can share data and resources using synchronous (e.g. web conferencing and instant messaging) and a-synchronous (e.g., electronic lab notebooks) communication tools.

PNNL's capabilities in collaboration and productivity tool development include:

  • Real-time collaboration applications
  • Workgroup facilitation
  • Real-time brainstorming for geographically dispersed teams
  • Video conferencing
  • Real-time streaming video for cyber conferences
  • Microsoft™ Office integration and implementation
  • Desktop configuration management
  • Virus protection architectures to protect information assets and avoid business disruption
  • E-mail architecture and implementation
