Biography

Dr. Paulo Pinheiro is a Staff Scientist and a leader on semantic technology in support of large-scale data management at the U.S. Department of Energy's Pacific Northwest National Laboratory since 2011. Paulo was the head of the Trust Lab and an Associate Professor in the Department of Computer Science at the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) until December 2012. Prior to joining UTEP, Paulo was a postdoctoral fellow at the Knowledge Systems, Artificial Intelligence Laboratory at Stanford University. Paulo holds a Ph.D. in Computer Science, 2002 (University of Manchester, U.K.), an M.Sc. in Computer Science, 1998, and a BA in applied mathematics, 1996 (Federal University of Minas Gerais, Brazil). Before joining the University of Manchester's Ph.D. program in 1998, Paulo had over 15 years of practical experience with Big Data as an IT manager, IT consultant, and software developer for public and private companies in Brazil.
