John scheduled his vacation about a month ago. I know he was really
looking forward to it. He's been working very hard and seemed to be
tired most of the time. I heard that he saved up a lot of vacation and
was going to lose it soon if he didn't take it. It's kind of rough
around here and it's not easy to get away.

Well, I know that John was working a lot, at odd hours. Last weekend, I came in for a few minutes on Sunday afternoon and saw him working away on some project.
Then, on the following Monday morning, I came in at 8am — my regular shift — and saw him again in the same clothes he'd been wearing on Sunday. He looked exhausted and I asked him if he was all right. He just waved his hand and said, "I just pulled an all-nighter and I'm feeling a little bit sleepy."

It has come to our attention that your vacation time has surpassed the amount that can be carried over. If you do not take at least 10 days of vacation before June 1, we will be forced to subtract it from your account.

This seems very unfair after all the time and hard work I've put in for the company. However, since it does seem to be a company policy, I have decided to take a week off starting on the 10th of this month and another week in May.
