Biography

Dr. Hui Wan is a global climate modeler in the Atmospheric Sciences and Global Change Division. She started at PNNL as a Linus Pauling Distinguished Postdoctoral Fellow and then became a staff member. Her current research focuses primarily on identifying and reducing numerical artifacts in physics parameterizations and process interactions in global atmosphere models. She is also interested in computationally efficient methods for numerical experimentation and model evaluation. Dr. Wan is a member of the Organizing Committee for the workshop series on Physics Dynamics Coupling in Weather and Climate Models.

Prior to joining PNNL, Dr. Wan was a core member of the ICON group at the Max Planck Institute for Meteorology in Germany where she was responsible for developing a hydrostatic atmospheric dynamical core on triangular grids. During the earlier years of her graduate study at the Institute of Atmospheric Physics (IAP) of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, she developed the first version of the climate model GAMIL using a finite-difference dynamical core of IAP's and the physics parameterizations from the NCAR CAM2 model.
