Biography

Through Dr. Flynn's role as instrument mentor for the ARM Program, he has developed expertise in measurement instrumentation--specifically in lidar and FTIR equipment, and with computer data acquisition techniques in general. His expertise ranges from low-level instrument design (specification and fabrication of components and subsystems) to assembly of complete systems, and extends to data synthesis of third-party equipment as well. In his capacity as ARM Translator for the Aerosol Working Group, he has gained expertise with in-situ aerosol instrumentation and with remote sensing instruments, having directed the routine production of advanced aerosol products from several suites of instruments including passive and active remote sensors as well as ground-based and air-borne in-situ sensors.

Complementary to each of these activities is his expertise with computers running essentially every common operating system (DOS, OS/2, Linux, Solaris, and all Windows variants). He is widely recognized for his superior skill with computer system configuration and maintenance. He also has experience with cross-platform development including familiarity with several shell script languages, programming languages, and development environments.
