The PRIMA Initiative is developing a modeling framework to address regional human-environmental system interactions in response to climate change and its uncertainties to inform mitigation and adaptation decision-making.
- Aerosol Climate Initiative (2007-2012)
The Aerosol Climate Initiative (ACI) was launched in January 2006 to build research capabilities addressing the processes and properties controlling aerosol effects on climate.
- Atmospheric Aerosol Chemistry
Atmospheric chemistry influences human health, climate, food production and, through its impact on visibility, our view of the world. Chemicals in the air affect us with each breath we take.
- Climate and Cloud Physics
The challenge to represent clouds, aerosols, and cloud-aerosol interactions in global and regional climate models is addressed by combining field measurements and modeling as part of the DOE Atmospheric Radiation Measurement (ARM) program and DOE Atmospheric System Research (ASR) program.
- Complex Regional Meteorology
Our research approach is characterized by integrating data analysis and modeling to improve our understanding of atmospheric processes related to transport and fate of energy-related pollutants, regional climate, and homeland security issues.
- Integrated Assessment of Energy and the Environment
Pacific Northwest National Laboratory has been at the forefront of global energy/economic modeling for nearly two decades. PNNL's models were the primary analytical tools for the U.S.'s analysis of the 1992 UN Framework Convention as well as the 1997 Kyoto Protocol.
