Brian Abrahamson is the Chief Information Officer for the Department of Energy's Pacific Northwest National Laboratory.

As CIO, Brian is accountable to the Laboratory Director to continuously improve the deployment, use, management and protection of information resources to increase research productivity and operational effectiveness of PNNL. As a member of the Laboratory's senior management team, his responsibilities include:

  • Determining PNNL IT investment strategies and priorities, and monitoring effective control of the cost, schedule, and performance of IT investments and corresponding projects.
  • Maintaining a strategic plan that links IT planning and investment decisions to DOE-wide and PNNL–specific missions and goals, and establishes overarching IT goals, objectives, and measures.
  • Representing PNNL interests concerning information technology to the Department of Energy and to other federal and state agencies.

Prior to returning to his home state of Washington and joining PNNL in 2011, Brian acted as CIO and chief architect for San Francisco-based Pacific Gas and Electric Company, one of the nation's largest investor-owned utilities. Prior to that he spent 10 years with the management consulting organization Accenture where he worked with a number of Fortune 500 companies, as well as several years working in industry.
Brian holds a B.S. degree in Computer Science from Gonzaga University.
