Brian Abrahamson is the Chief Information Officer and the Associate Laboratory Director for Communications and Information Technology at PNNL.
In this role, Brian is accountable to the Laboratory Director to continuously improve the deployment, use, management and protection of information resources to increase research productivity and operational effectiveness of PNNL. He also guides efforts to advance PNNL's reputation. As a member of the Laboratory's senior management team, his responsibilities include:
- Determining PNNL IT investment strategies and priorities, and monitoring effective control of the cost, schedule, and performance of IT investments and corresponding projects.
- Maintaining a strategic plan that links IT planning and investment decisions to DOE-wide and PNNL—specific missions and goals, and establishes overarching IT goals, objectives, and measures.
- Representing PNNL interests concerning information technology to DOE and to other federal and state agencies.
- Developing the overarching PNNL communications strategy to increase the visibility, understanding of, and support for PNNL—specifically in the science and research communities.
Brian returned to his home state of Washington in 2011 to join PNNL. He previously served as the CIO and chief architect for San Francisco-based Pacific Gas and Electric Company, one of the nation's largest investor-owned utilities. Prior to that, Brian spent ten years with Accenture, a management consulting organization, where he worked with a number of Fortune 500 companies as well as several years in industry working for a variety of organizations.
Brian holds a B.S. degree in Computer Science from Gonzaga University.
